Maldives Police Service searched the office of online news outlet -Adhadhu under a court-issued warrant following the publication of a controversial video containing allegations against President Mohamed Muizzu.

The search comes days after Adhadhu released a 30-minute video ahead of the local council elections, featuring an anonymous voice making personal allegations against the President. The video also reportedly included AI-generated images and clips resembling the President and the First Lady.

During a press briefing held on monday, Adhadhu reporters raised the allegations directly with President Muizzu. He denied the claims, calling them false, and called on authorities to investigate.

Police later obtained a court warrant and carried out a search of Adhadhu’s office in the presence of the outlet’s senior management and legal counsel. In a statement, police said the operation was conducted to enforce a court order issued in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.

Authorities added that the investigation was initiated amid public calls for clarity and verification of the claims made in the video.

Police have not disclosed further details regarding the scope of the search or any items seized.
