PayPal services have been launched in the Maldives through an integration with Ooredoo Maldives' mobile wallet platform, M-Faisaa.

The service was officially launched at a ceremony held at Barceló Nasandhura on Monday. The integration, delivered through Ooredoo Fintech, enables customers to receive international payments directly by linking their PayPal accounts with M-Faisaa.

According to information shared at the launch, users can withdraw up to USD 3,000 per day from PayPal into their M-Faisaa wallets. Transactions will incur a USD 1.50 fee, while PayPal withdrawals will be subject to a 2 percent withdrawal fee.

The service also allows businesses to receive payments in US dollars from foreign clients in real time through PayPal, providing a new avenue for international transactions.

The new integration is expected to benefit freelancers, content creators, entrepreneurs, small businesses and tourism operators by providing a way to receive payments from overseas customers and clients.

Guesthouse operators, dive schools, artisans and software developers serving international customers are among those expected to benefit from the service.

Representatives of Ooredoo Group and PayPal attended the launch ceremony alongside government officials, including Cabinet ministers and senior officials from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The Maldives has previously had limited access to PayPal services, with users generally able to make payments online but facing challenges in receiving funds. The new integration seeks to address that gap by enabling the receipt of international payments through the M-Faisaa platform.
