The Maldives is mourning the loss of Sheikh Ismail Mohamed, one of the country's pioneering religious scholars whose lifelong dedication to Islamic education helped shape generations of Maldivians.

Known for his commitment to teaching, learning and community service, Sheikh Ismail played a pivotal role in spreading Islamic knowledge across the Maldives. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, as he guided students in their religious studies and encouraged many young Maldivians to pursue higher Islamic education abroad.

Throughout his life, Sheikh Ismail worked tirelessly to make religious knowledge more accessible. Among his lasting contributions were the translation and publication of numerous Islamic books in the Dhivehi language, enabling more people to deepen their understanding of Islam in their mother tongue.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, expressing condolences following the scholar's passing, described Sheikh Ismail as one of the Maldives' earliest generations of religious scholars. The President noted that his contributions to promoting Islamic awareness and educating the public earned him the National Award of Honour.

For many, Sheikh Ismail's legacy lies not only in the books he translated or the students he taught, but also in the values and knowledge he passed on to the community. His efforts helped strengthen Islamic education in the Maldives and inspired countless individuals to seek religious learning.

As family members, students and members of the public prepare to bid farewell, Sheikh Ismail is being remembered as a scholar whose dedication to faith and education left a lasting mark on the nation.
