The sound of emergency sirens echoed across the MTCC Thilafushi site as first responders sprang into action—not for a real emergency, but for a full-scale exercise designed to test the company's preparedness when every second counts.
Organized by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the exercise simulated a fire aboard a vessel at the Thilafushi boatyard, bringing together multiple agencies in a coordinated emergency response.
Minister of State for Defence and National Service, Ms. Safoora, attended the exercise alongside several resident diplomats, observing as emergency teams assessed the incident, evacuated casualties, extinguished the fire, provided medical assistance, and secured the site.
The exercise underscored the importance of effective coordination, clear communication, and rapid decision-making during workplace emergencies. It also provided an opportunity for responders to test operational procedures, strengthen inter-agency cooperation, and identify areas for improvement.
Although the incident was simulated, the objective was real—to ensure MTCC and its partner agencies are well prepared to respond quickly and effectively should a fire or other emergency occur at the company's operational sites.
