The Maldives has commissioned a new Coast Guard patrol vessel donated by Australia, strengthening the country's maritime security capabilities and defence partnership between the two nations.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu officially commissioned CGS Imaduddin during a ceremony at the Hulhumalé International Terminal, where he accepted the vessel on behalf of the Maldivian people and presented a letter of appreciation to the Australian Government.

The President also handed over the commissioning warrant and the national flag to the vessel's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sinan Zahir, formally bringing the vessel into operational service with the Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Australian High Commissioner highlighted the strong maritime cooperation between Australia and the Maldives, describing the vessel as another milestone in the growing defence partnership between the two countries.

Built by Austal Limited in Perth under Australia's Defence Cooperation Programme, CGS Imaduddin is designed to support maritime surveillance, search and rescue, and law enforcement operations. Maldivian Coast Guard personnel also received specialised training in Australia before the vessel's delivery.

The addition of CGS Imaduddin is expected to enhance the Maldives' ability to safeguard its vast maritime territory while contributing to regional maritime security across the Indian Ocean.
