The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has successfully conducted an Island Disaster Management Plan (IDMP) Workshop and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Induction Training in K. Guraidhoo, as part of its Community-Based Resilience Building (CBRB) Programme.
The IDMP workshop, held from 9–11 August, was conducted with the assistance of UNDP Maldives, bringing together key stakeholders and community representatives to strengthen the island’s disaster preparedness, risk reduction and response planning.
This was followed by a two-day CERT Induction Workshop on 12–13 August, conducted in partnership with UNICEF Maldives. The training focused on building basic emergency response skills among community members, with participants also taking part in a practical emergency response drill.
State Minister for Defence and National Service Aishath Safoora observed the drill and attended the closing ceremony, where she highlighted the importance of strengthening preparedness at community level. She also presented certificates to the CERT training participants.
Through the CBRB Programme, NDMA is supporting islands to move beyond reactive disaster response towards proactive, community-led resilience, strengthening local preparedness, planning, coordination and response capacity.
K. Guraidhoo’s successful completion of the IDMP process and CERT training marks another step towards building a safer and more resilient community.
