At just 17 years old, Looth Mohamed Hussein is already making his mark in Maldivian swimming.

His journey began when he was only 11, after taking part in an Inter-School Tournament. What started as a competition soon became a commitment — and Looth has been training and practising ever since.

Today, he is a member of the Maldives National Swimming Team and holds the national record in the men’s long-course 50-metre backstroke.

And he has broken his own record twice in just three months.

A month ago, Looth renewed the record at the Commonwealth Games. Just last week, at the Asian Games, he did it again — pushing himself beyond a record he had set himself.

Speaking exclusively to Sukun, Looth said he is happy with what he has achieved so far, but he is already looking ahead.

His goal is no longer simply to break records.

He wants to win gold on the international stage.

That goal is now shaping his training, his discipline and the work he puts in every day.

Away from the pool, Looth is a business student. But when asked how long he plans to continue swimming, his answer is simple: he will keep swimming for as long as he can.

At 17, Looth has already learned that breaking a record is not the end of the race.

Sometimes, it is simply the starting point for the next one.
