Maldives Vice President Faisal Naseem tested positive for COVID-19.

President' Office Spokesperson Mabrook Azeez confirmed the news and said Vice President is doing well and is in home isolation.

Maldives is experiencing a second wave of the virus with a huge serge in positive cases. The total fatality rate has doubled in the island nation with a total number of 147 deaths.

According to the latest statistics, 1,299 people tested positive during the last 24 hours. The number of active cases has risen to 59,644.

In an effort to curb the virus, government has implemented a 2nd lockdown in Capital Area starting from 26 May 2021.
