Football star Ali Ashfaq has been appointed as the Director General at the Residence of the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, with his appointment confirmed by the Parliament Secretariat. His role took effect at the end of July 2024.

Ashfaq, known for his football career, is a close friend of Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, who is also the son of Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla. The two have been seen together at various casual and official events. Earlier this year, Ashfaq actively campaigned for the ruling PNC during the parliamentary election, further solidifying his political connections.

In another significant move, Ashfaq’s brother, Ahmed Ashfan, was appointed Deputy Controller of Immigration earlier in 2024, highlighting the family's growing presence in government roles.
