Maldives Immigration has deported more than 4,300 expatriate workers in the last 10 months as part of a larger effort to address issues related to undocumented foreign workers. Mohamed Shamman Waheed, the Controller General of Immigration, stated that they are on track to deport 5,000 expatriates by the first anniversary of the current administration.

In addition to the deportations, 51 expatriates were denied entry into the Maldives for attempting to enter the country with improper documentation. Shamman highlighted that there have been several attempts to enter using fake passports, which were intercepted by Immigration authorities.

The agency has been actively conducting raids and search operations to locate undocumented workers and businesses run by them. This initiative comes as part of broader efforts to resolve long-standing challenges associated with undocumented expatriates in the Maldives.

Immigration’s continuous operations are part of a coordinated approach to regulate foreign labor and ensure compliance with national laws.
