Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, Mohamed Asif, has been suspended from the Maldives Correctional Services following allegations of serious financial misconduct. Though official details remain undisclosed, sources confirmed that Asif is suspected of transferring over MVR 200,000 from the Prison Club’s account to his personal bank account.

Reportedly, staff members within the Maldives Correctional Services flagged the irregular transaction, prompting further scrutiny. Mohamed Asif, who serves as the president of the Prison Club, is at the center of the issue, which has led to staff submitting a petition to Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
