Parliament Majority Leader Ibrahim Falah has vowed to defeat the no-confidence motion filed against the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The motion, submitted with the signatures of 12 MDP Parliament Group members on Friday, accuses the ministry of violating citizens' privacy and engaging in politically motivated misconduct.

The opposition alleges that the ministry unlawfully accessed and misused identity card details of ordinary citizens to fraudulently fill ruling People's National Congress (PNC) membership forms submitted to the Elections Commission. The accusations include:

1. Misuse of public offices to benefit a specific political party.

2. Theft of citizens’ personal information for fraudulent purposes.

3. Denial of wrongdoing and obstructing oversight by security services.

4. Submission of fraudulent membership forms to the Elections Commission to falsely inflate ruling party membership.

The allegations have sparked outrage on social media, with many citizens claiming they were registered as PNC members without their consent. The opposition has demanded accountability, accusing the ministry of undermining democratic principles and public trust.

However, ruling party parliamentarians have rallied behind the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan, expressing full confidence in his leadership. They have dismissed the accusations as baseless and politically motivated, vowing to defeat the motion when it is debated in parliament.

The no-confidence motion highlights growing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, with the latter pushing for transparency and accountability in governance. The debate over the motion is expected to be closely watched as it unfolds in the coming days.
