Malé, Maldives – A cargo boat named Holhudhoo Boat, which operates between Laamu Atoll and Thaa Atoll, has been completely destroyed by fire while at sea. The incident occurred while the boat was traveling from Laamu Maavah Island to Thaa Atoll, carrying 18 people on board.

Seventeen individuals have been successfully rescued; however, 25-year-old Ali Mushfiq from Laamu Maavah remains missing. Search operations are currently underway, with the Maldives National Coast Guard and Maldives Police Service actively combing the area for any signs of the missing individual.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities, and investigations are expected to commence once the immediate search and rescue efforts are completed.
