Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Customs Service has destroyed 12,968 bottles of beer, including 510 beer glasses, which were confiscated by customs officers. The destruction took place at Thilafushi, under the supervision of relevant authorities and in the presence of media representatives.

According to the Customs General Regulation, items detained by customs for various reasons may be destroyed following prescribed procedures. A significant portion of the confiscated alcohol was seized from travelers arriving at Velana International Airport.

As an Islamic nation, the Maldives enforces a strict ban on alcohol for the local population. However, licensed resorts and safari vessels are permitted to serve alcohol to tourists. Importing alcohol without proper authorization is prohibited, and any unlicensed individuals or parties attempting to bring it into the country face confiscation and legal action.

The Maldives Customs Service continues to enforce strict regulations on prohibited goods to ensure compliance with national laws. Authorities urge travelers to adhere to local import restrictions to avoid penalties and confiscation of items upon arrival.
