Malé, Maldives – A total of 44 international airlines are currently operating flights to the Maldives, according to the latest tourism update report released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. The Ministry says airlines from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia contribute to this growing number, with more carriers expressing interest in launching operations to the Maldives.

Among the world-renowned airlines currently flying to the Maldives includes Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Air France, Aeroflot, and Virgin Atlantic. Several budget carriers such as Fly Dubai, Wizz Air, and IndiGo also serve the country, providing affordable access to one of the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations.

In support of this increasing connectivity, the Velana International Airport’s new passenger terminal is progressing rapidly and is expected to open in the fourth quarter of this year. Once operational, the new terminal—equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and world-class facilities—is expected to significantly enhance passenger experience and boost airline traffic.

With the new terminal in place, the Maldives aims to handle over 7 million passengers annually, a major leap in capacity that aligns with the country’s tourism ambitions.

Last year, the Maldives welcomed over 2 million tourists, and the number is projected to grow further in 2025 as demand continues to rise and connectivity improves.
