Malé, Maldives – Hundreds of young people protested outside the Maldives Police Service headquarters on Saturday night, demanding justice for a 21-year-old woman who fell from the ninth floor of a building on Friday night. The crowd is calling for the arrest of Raud Mohamed Zilaal, who was with the woman at the time of the incident.

The woman, who remains in critical condition, landed on the roof of a nearby house. Police have withheld Raud’s passport and confirmed that both he and the woman tested positive for cannabis.

The incident followed a party earlier that evening in a building co-owned by Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen and his three siblings. Ameen confirmed that two of his nephews attended but denied hosting the gathering or interfering in the case. He said the party did not take place in the section of the property he personally occupies.

After the party, some attendees moved to another location. CCTV footage shows Raud and the woman entering a building and walking through the stairwell before the fall. Police say the footage does not show the woman being pushed.

Public anger has grown due to the involvement of individuals with political ties — including children of government officials. Raud is the younger brother of Daud Ahmed, Deputy Under Secretary at the President’s Office.

Protesters are demanding justice, Raud’s arrest, and the resignation of government officials they believe are influencing the investigation. Meanwhile, social media is flooded with unverified claims and personal details of alleged attendees, raising concerns about defamation and misinformation.

Police have urged the public not to spread unverified information as the investigation continues.
