Kuala Lumpur – President Dr Mohamed Muizzu arrived in Malaysia on Sunday for his first official visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, he was welcomed with an Honour Guard by senior Malaysian officials and Maldives’ High Commissioner to Malaysia.

An official welcoming ceremony was held on Monday in Putrajaya, where President Muizzu was warmly received by Prime Minister Anwar. After inspecting a Guard of Honour, the two leaders introduced their delegations, posed for a photograph against Masjid Putra, and President Muizzu signed the Visitors' Book.

During official talks at Putra Perdana, President Muizzu thanked Malaysia for its hospitality and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation, especially in areas like digital innovation, AI, and cybersecurity. He also appreciated Malaysia’s flexible visa policies for Maldivians.

A highlight of the meeting was Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's praise for President Muizzu’s decision to bar Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives, calling it a "brave decision" and commending the Maldives' principled stand.

Following the talks, several Memorandums of Understanding and Exchange of Notes were signed to further strengthen bilateral ties. President Muizzu's visit will conclude on April 30, 2025.
