The National Disaster Management Authority has launched the Damage Assessment and Loss Analysis, or DALA Portal — a new national digital platform designed to modernise disaster reporting in the Maldives.
For decades, disaster assessments relied on manual reporting and fragmented systems. The DALA Portal replaces this with a secure, end-to-end digital system that allows authorised users to report disaster events online, with damage and loss calculations generated automatically — improving accuracy, consistency, and speed.
The system enables real-time tracking of incidents, with clear status updates and SMS notifications issued at key stages. This improves coordination among institutions and supports faster response and recovery efforts.
Once verified, disaster data is displayed through live dashboards, improving transparency and public access to information.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan said the portal reflects President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision for Digital Maldives 2 point O.
Supported by UNDP, the initiative aligns with NDMA’s Strategic Action Plan and global frameworks including the Sendai Framework and Early Warnings for All.
The DALA Portal was developed by NDMA with technical support from UNDP and funding from Denmark, Luxembourg, and the Republic of Korea — marking a major step towards a more resilient Maldives.
