31 individuals graduated as Huffaz this year, marking the highest number of Quran memorisation graduates recorded in a single year in the Maldives.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented the Presidential Prize and Medal to 31 Huffaz who completed memorising the Holy Quran by heart.
The graduates memorised the Quran from last Ramadan to this Ramadan and recited it before the Hifz Examination Committee in accordance with the standards set by the National Centre for the Holy Quran. Of the 31 graduates, 19 were female and 12 were male. Twenty-three were between the ages of 12 and 21, while eight were over the age of 21.
The President also presented the Presidential Medal to 18 additional individuals who completed memorisation between 3 September 2024 and 18 March 2025, meeting the criteria set by the National Centre for Recitation of the Quran.
As of 26 February 2026, the Maldives has 139 female Huffaz and 162 male Huffaz.
The Government aims to make the Maldives the country with the highest number of Huffaz globally. More than MVR 19 million was allocated in 2025 to expand Quran education, with plans to establish a Quran centre on every inhabited island. A total of 50 centres are set to be established this year.
