President Mohamed Muizzu has reconstituted his Cabinet, reducing the number of ministries from 20 to 15 as part of a broader government reform initiative.

The new Cabinet was appointed at a ceremony held on Tuesday evening at the President’s Office, just hours after 10 ministers tendered their resignations to facilitate what the administration described as “positive governance reforms” aligned with public expectations.

The restructured Cabinet brings together several portfolios under single ministries. Key appointments include Moosa Zameer as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprise, Ali Ihusaan as Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, and Iruthisham Adam as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Other appointments include Dr Ismail Shafeeu as Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development, Geela Ali as Minister of Health, Family and Welfare, and Mohamed Saeed as Minister of Economic, Transport and Trade.

Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed was appointed Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, while Mohamed Ameen will oversee Tourism and Civil Aviation. Abdulla Rafiu takes on Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, and Heena Waleed will head Arts, Culture and Heritage.

The remaining portfolios include Dr Abdulla Muththalib as Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, and Ali Shareef as Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy.

The Cabinet will comprise 15 members in total, including the Attorney General and two additional ministers.

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, after which the newly appointed ministers signed their declarations, formally assuming office.

The restructuring marks one of the most significant administrative changes under President Muizzu, aimed at streamlining government functions and improving efficiency.
