President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held a series of high-level engagements in Colombo on Monday as part of his ongoing State Visit to Sri Lanka.

The day began with a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Secretariat, where he was received by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The ceremony included a gun salute and Guard of Honour, followed by official talks between the two leaders. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas including economic ties, education, youth empowerment, healthcare, fisheries, security, and cultural exchange, while reaffirming close people-to-people links.

The two Presidents also witnessed the exchange of seven Memoranda of Understanding covering sectors such as tourism, academic cooperation, teacher training, archiving, defence and health collaboration, and efforts to prevent violent extremism.

In a press statement, President Muizzu described the visit as the start of a renewed and forward-looking partnership, highlighting priorities such as trade and investment, youth development, climate action, and maritime cooperation. He also pointed to the upcoming Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum as a platform to expand economic engagement.

Separately, President Muizzu met with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Speaker of Parliament Jagath Wickramaratne, with discussions focusing on socio-economic cooperation and strengthening inter-parliamentary ties.

The engagements reflect efforts by both countries to deepen cooperation and build on over six decades of diplomatic relations.
