At an age when many are still searching for their passion, Ahmed Rizan Nizar has already found his—and he's determined to make his mark on the bodybuilding stage.
The young Maldivian fitness athlete recently stepped onto the international stage at the South Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Championship in Bhutan. Although he returned home without a medal, Rizan considers the experience a victory in itself.
"It was my first international competition, and I'm happy with my performance," he said.
For Rizan, bodybuilding isn't just about lifting weights—it's about discipline, consistency and believing in a goal even when no one is watching.
A freelance fitness trainer by profession, his days revolve around training, recovery and nutrition. Maintaining peak condition requires more than intense workouts.
"I eat five to six meals a day and always make sure I take my meals and supplements on time," he explained, highlighting the strict routine that supports his progress.
As one of the youngest competitive bodybuilders in the Maldives, Rizan believes success is built through small, consistent efforts repeated every day. His next challenge is already in sight—the Mr. Maldives Competition, scheduled for November.
Like many athletes, Rizan has faced public criticism and differing opinions. But he says those voices have never distracted him from his purpose.
"Every field attracts public comments," he said. "What's most important is your own goal and the hard work you put in."
His journey serves as a reminder that success isn't always measured by medals. Sometimes, it's about having the courage to step onto the stage, learn from every experience and come back stronger.
For Ahmed Rizan Nizar, the competition in Bhutan wasn't the finish line—it was just the beginning of a journey he hopes will inspire more young Maldivians to pursue their dreams with dedication, discipline and resilience.
