President Muizzu Departs for New York to Attend 79th UN General Assembly

President His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu departed for New York on Friday to attend the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79). Accompanied by a high-level Maldivian delegation, this marks President Muizzu's first official participation at the UNGA since assuming office. The trip is of particular importance as it coincides with the 59th anniversary of the Maldives' membership in the UN.

President Muizzu is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. In addition to his address, he will also attend the Summit of the Future, co-chair key dialogues, and participate in various side events. He is expected to engage in bilateral and multilateral discussions with international leaders, focusing on issues critical to the Maldives, including environmental challenges, technological advancements, and developmental aid.

Before his departure, President Muizzu emphasized the importance of fostering relationships with the international community, particularly through the UN, to ensure benefits for the Maldives. He expressed optimism that the visit would yield fruitful outcomes for the country, especially in securing assistance for key national issues.

President Muizzu is expected to return to the Maldives on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
