Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, arrived in New Delhi on Sunday for a three-day state visit. This marks his first official state visit to India since taking office in November 2023. On arrival, President Muizzu was received at the airport by K. V. Singh, India’s Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.

Later in the evening, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with President Muizzu, ahead of the President’s scheduled meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following the meeting, Minister Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for President Muizzu’s commitment to strengthening the India-Maldives relationship and said he is confident that Muizzu’s talks with PM Modi will give a new impetus to the long-standing friendly ties between the two nations.

President Muizzu concluded the day with an informal gathering with Maldivians residing in New Delhi. During the meeting, the President stated that his visit would bring positive outcomes for Maldivians and contribute to their prosperity.

President Muizzu, who arrived in New Delhi on a special Indian Air Force civilian airline, will hold discussions in New Delhi, Bangalore, and Mumbai over the course of his visit. The agenda includes exploring areas of bilateral cooperation, enhancing development partnerships, and discussing strategies to support the Maldivian economy. The visit is seen as a key opportunity to reset ties and focus on mutual cooperation after the campaign rhetoric of the “India out” policy during his election campaign last year.
