Legendary Maldivian Singer Mohamed Majid (Mezzo Mode) Passes Away at 59

Renowned Maldivian singer Mohamed Majid, widely known as Mezzo Mode, passed away this evening at the age of 59 while receiving treatment for a heart attack at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Mezzo Mode began his music career in 1977 and became a leading figure in Maldivian music. His band, Mezzo, performed extensively across the Maldives and internationally, gaining recognition for their original Maldivian compositions. Their song Visna Visna made history as the first Maldivian track to be featured on the international music channel MTV.
In recognition of his contributions to the music industry, Mohamed Majid was awarded the National Award of Recognition in 2010 for his achievements in the field of music.
Following his passing, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Mohamed Majid’s family. His loss marks the end of an era for Maldivian music, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
